NPTEL Assignment for GATE
NPTEL is the short form for National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning which is an initiative by seven old IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) for creating study material for engineering and science.
NPTEL stands for National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning.
Five engineering branches (Civil, Computer Science, Electrical, Electronics and Communication and Mechanical) are covered under NPTEL.
Contents for NPTEL courses were based on the model curriculum suggested by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the syllabi of major affiliating Universities in India.
The focus areas for NPTEL project are
higher education,
professional education,
distance education and
continuous and open learning,
NPTEL is a curriculum building exercise and is directed towards providing learning materials in Science and Engineering by adhering to the syllabi of All India Council for Technical Education and the slightly modified curricula of major affiliating Universities.
The difference between NPTEL and OCW is that there are more than 500 video (approximately 20000 hours) lecture courses in NPTEL. In addition, IITs have large number of video lectures prepared already from their own efforts. These are available as free and open educational resources for all. It is going to be the largest video repository of technical lecture-courses in the world in the streaming video format and will be helpful to everyone who is interested in enhancing his/her learning.
SWAYAM (Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds) is the National MOOCs portal being developed by MHRD, Govt. whereas the NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning) is the official SWAYAM national coordinator for engineering.
There are hundreds of courses which students can do under NPTEL and learn free of cost. At the end of each course, students can get certificate of completion of that course with stamp of participating IIT. For getting the certificate, student must write the exam.
Yes, these are important and also useful. Since these are issued by IITs hence have credibility. Whenever student appear for any interview in IIT IISc or industry, he can talk about the certificate he earned after going through the course.
As you know that NPTEL provides hundreds of courses in different curricular of institutes, the assignments are part of these courses. Students are provided questions by the teachers of IIT for their practice and for clearing their concepts. MCQ are framed for each topic and provided to the students for each course.
Teachers of IIT have taught the subjects and recorded their lectures and uploaded free of cost on YouTube for the benefit of students. Each course is of duration of roughly 40 hours. It is also possible that more than one teacher teaches same subject.
These are very useful especially for those students who can’t afford to attend the physical classes of such learned teachers. Teachers of IIT have taken much pains and recorded their entire modules and provided free of cost to the students. These lectures are not only important for the regular syllabus of the colleges but also for industry needs as well as for competitive exams such as GATE.
Yes, the lectures and assignments provided through the NPTEL course are very helpful and useful for the preparation of GATE exam. The lectures are based upon the basic concepts of engineering and help students to gain basic knowledge of the subject. Teachers teaching the subjects are highly knowledgeable and expert of their domain.
GATE is prestigious exam conducted by IITs and is basis for getting into prestigious jobs of PSU as well as getting admission into prestigious universities such as IISc and IITs. Since the videos are also made by the same professors who eventually test the knowledge of students through GATE exam, hence NPTEL videos become important for preparation of GATE exam.
NPTEL assignments are very important for GATE exam since the questions are framed in NPTEL assignments by the professors of IIT and are similar to the one asked in GATE exam. The concepts being asked in GATE exam are taught by the professors in the NPTEL courses. No doubt that the purpose of NPTEL course is not to prepare students for GATE exam, still the concepts are same and many questions in the NPTEL assignments are directly relevant for this exam.
Not all questions are on the similar pattern of GATE but 30% of the questions in NPTEL assignment are related to what is being asked in GATE exam. Those students going to appear for GATE 2022 exam must go through the assignments of NPTEL for their better preparation.
The videos of NPTEL available on YouTube related to the most important topics of GATE must be seen and student should make the notes on the basis of these videos. The assignments of NPTEL must be solved especially those having questions related to the one asked in GATE exam.
Seven old IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) initiated this process but other IITs are also becoming part of NPTEL now.
As we know that NPTEL assignments are very relevant and important for GATE 2022 exam. Professors of IIT have framed very good questions in NPTEL assignment and can be very helpful for those students appearing in GATE 2022 exam. The assignments have the answers but not the solution.
